Today, with gold and platinum prices at historic highs, transforming old pieces of jewellery into new treasures is not just meaningful — it’s cost-effective and sustainable too. 1. Diamond Bubble Ring — A Pendant Reborn.

One client came to me with a beautiful diamond pendant that hadn’t been worn in years. The piece carried personal meaning, but its style no longer resonated. Rather than setting it aside, I carefully removed the existing diamond and used it as the centrepiece of a new platinum bubble ring.

The old pendant was made in gold, so I traded in its scrap value and melted the precious metal down as part of the payment toward platinum for the new ring. The result was a contemporary, elegant piece that references the original’s sentiment but feels fresh and wearable — and with gold at an all-time high in value, this option was as financially smart as it was beautiful.

2. Restoring an Antique Gold Ring.

Another client brought in an antique gold ring that had been passed down through generations — a family heirloom, but one that was worn, bent, and simply unwearable in its current state. Rather than design something entirely new, I recreated the piece in platinum just as it looked originally — but stronger, tidier, and fully wearable again.

By reworking the precious metal, reinforcing the structure, and polishing every detail, I restored its beauty while preserving its legacy. In this case, repurposing the existing metal meant honouring memories and avoiding unnecessary new material — a win for both sentiment and sustainability.

3. A Three-Stone Cushion Sapphire and Diamond Redesign.

In another project, I reimagined a three-stone ring featuring a cushion sapphire and two old-cut diamonds. The stones were still wonderfully vibrant, but the original setting had seen better days. I designed a fresh setting that enhances each gem’s colour and sparkle while creating a more contemporary silhouette — the perfect balance of classic and modern.
