A Hidden Note, a Diamond, and a Moment, Meant to be Found.

At Bespoke By Baskerville, we often say that jewellery is never just jewellery. It carries stories, memories, and meaning far beyond metal and stone. Every now and then, one of those stories quite literally reveals itself when we least expect it.

Recently, I was working with a client who had entrusted me with a diamond pendant—an elegant piece, rich with sentiment, but ready for its next chapter. The diamond was to be carefully cut out and reset in a new ring, while the gold from the original pendant would be traded in to help fund this new creation: a platinum bubble ring, set with stones chosen to reflect both past and future. A transformation rooted in sustainability, craftsmanship, and personal meaning, and the centre stone, would be from the pendant.

The pendant arrived in its original jewellery box, well-worn and clearly cherished. As part of our careful process, I removed the pendant from the box to prepare the stone for its journey. It was during this moment—one that usually passes quietly—that something unexpected happened.

Tucked away behind the padding at the back of the box, hidden from view for years, I noticed something unusual. Carefully lifting the lining, I discovered a small, folded note.

The client had believed this note was lost forever.

Time had passed. Moves had been made. Life had unfolded. Somewhere along the way, the note—so important it had once been placed with the pendant for safekeeping—had vanished. Or so it was thought. In reality, it had been waiting patiently, concealed behind velvet and cardboard, preserved by chance and time.

When I called the client with news of the discovery, her reaction was immediate and emotional. The note, deeply personal and tied to the original gifting of the pendant, had resurfaced at the very moment the jewellery itself was being reimagined. What had once been thought gone was suddenly returned, just in time to become part of the story again.

Moments like these remind us why bespoke work is so special. I am not simply remaking jewellery, I am handling fragments of people’s lives. The objects that pass through our hands often hold far more than their visible beauty—sometimes even secrets, waiting to be found.

The diamond has taken its place in a new platinum bubble ring, carrying forward the history of the original pendant while embracing a bold, contemporary form. And the note? It now has its own place of honour, no longer hidden, but reclaimed.

There is something quietly magical about this coincidence—about a message lost and found at precisely the right time. It feels like a gentle reminder that meaning has a way of resurfacing when we’re ready for it.
