Gemstone ring

My fascination with gemstones started in New York at a time when I was first working at the bench. I wanted to understand the qualities of these beautiful natural forms and what the properties of gemstones were.

To gain this knowledge I studied my DGA and FGA in London which enables me to grade diamonds and gemstones.

Most gemstones are minerals eg diamond, mineral, aggregates, Jade, rocks lapis lazuli, organic amber and many more.

One of the sources of beauty in stones is the colour and this is improved by the cut of the stone.

For me the gem of gems is Aquamarine which is from the Beryl family.  I love it because the bluish/green hues remind me of happy holidays sailing in Greece as a child.

Gemstones come with a story, they have travelled from all corners of the globe, then must be cut and purchased by someone like me to turn it into a thing of beauty to be adorned and adored……

A true jewel is not merely an accessory but an object with  a personal story, almost a soul that has an emotional connection.  Mine is this aquamarine ring given to me by mother that belonged to a Great, Great Aunt with connections to Brazil.  Which is where the stone would of originated from.  This ring gives me huge joy and every piece I make, I always encompass something of the wearer into the piece of jewellery.
