‘Old Treasures to New Wonders’
We are noticing a wonderful strengthening trend here at Bespoke By Baskerville, a trend that brings even more meaning, more love, and more enjoyment into what we do, and into the pieces of jewellery we produce for our clients.
Whats the trend?
The growing trend of repurposing old jewellery is becoming an increasingly key part to the services we offer our clients. It seems everyone has old jewellery they don’t wear, either it doesn’t fit, or its not to their taste. However, those pieces of jewellery carry special meaning, special memories and special feelings. These pieces can be family heirlooms, rings that no longer fit, or an unworn piece of jewellery that doesn’t go with today’s fasions, the back stories are almost endless, but the future can be whatever you want it to be for these pieces of jewellery, the future for these special pieces surely should not be being hidden in a draw but being repurposed into a new wonder.
And that’s exactly what we achieve with our clients. We take the ‘old treasures’ and repurpose them into a new wonder that you will want to wear every day, or maybe even as a ‘special occasion’ piece.
What if I want the ‘old treasure’ to remain original?
You can….What we do with any design is entirely up to you. Sometimes we use the old pieces of jewellery to craft something new, sometimes the old pieces are broken up, stones kept and metal sold to fund new different metal for a new piece, or even sometimes the original piece is to remain unaltered and we work them into a new piece, for example the pendant pictured below.
This client wanted a pendant using her late husband’s wedding band but did not want the band altering at all, it had to remain un touched. The resulting design by Fenella incorporates the client and her husband’s initials, A and R, his wedding band, and a new outer ring in platinum, with the detail of a bead for every year of his life. The client is never without this wonderful memory pendant.
What if I want to keep a stone and have a new ring with it in?
You absolutely can… Another client project was using the ring pictured below. It was not to the style of the client, but she loved the stone and it had special memories. With this situation the client was able to use the value of the scraped gold ring towards the cost of the new platinum ring whilst keeping the all important and sentimental emerald cut emerald and the diamonds. With gold being at an all-time high this was a shrewd move in more ways than one.
Fenella is a highly qualified Gemologist and wanted the emerald cut emerald to look at its absolute best, so the stone was polished, oiled and brought back to its former glory, the old gold ring scrapped, and the design completed to include all the original stones.
The above two images show the CAD (Computer Aided Design) image and a photo of the actual ring. As always, the client was overjoyed with the result. A cherished stone, in a new treasure.
Can I have existing pieces melted down and re use the gold?
Yes… Another recent client had four gold rings she no longer wore, one included diamonds and rubies and she wanted a new ring using all of the existing rings combined.
As always Fenella worked closely with the client to complete the desired design which was then made from the old gold rings and the original stones. Another very happy customer who has turned ‘Old treasures into New Wonders’ with us at Bespoke By Baskerville.
Can you combine several ‘Old treasures’ into a ‘New wonder’?
Yes… Here we have another very special example of ‘Old treasures into New wonders’ in the pendant pictured below. The client had lost his mother, his wife and his father in a relatively short space of time. The client wanted to have a pendant using his late wife’s wedding ring, that was the totality of the design brief.
Fenella designed the pendant pictured below, it uses the clients wedding ring as the outer, the client’s wife’s gold wedding band, the top of the client’s father’s signet ring, and the gold that holds it together is from the ring his father gave to his mother when the client was born. A true masterpiece of design that holds memories of an entire family in one very special piece of jewellery. The design has a nautical theme as the client has spent his entire life working with boats. This very special piece has been worn this continuously ever since.
Im sure, after reading and seeing the above, you are thinking about the special pieces of jewellery you don’t wear, and what we can design for you to make ‘Old treasures into New wonders’.
Please contact us by email or phone, and we can help make your ‘Old treasures into New wonders’ that will hold memories, carry stories, and give you many years of future pleasure.
